My parents gave me two requests: to apply in-state and to not be more than 5 hours by car. I wanted a journalism program. SIU was not accredited back then, Northwestern was too out of reach, and U of I was a strecth. I ended up at Iowa on scholarship and didn't really even research anything not in the Big 10.
Working for a smaller university on their abroad campus opened me up to so many more possibilities for students outside of the rah-rah and the big names. There are GREAT options that may be totally off your radar, and Cora benefits from being able to pinpoint exactly what she wants.
My kids are so far off from college, but I want to be able to show them support and help steer them, but not in an overbearing way. Good on you, Mom.
Thanks for this thoughtful reply, Cat! I know you have so much experience here!! I'm not sure what part of the process to ask for your advice. But I know I don't want to ask for too much. Right now we just need to get through the banquets and finals. Maybe we can have a chat in June? 🤗🙌🌈

Please don’t ask me about financial aid is all - I covered EU students but all of our financial aid went through a different office not connected to admissions and enrollment!
